Aside from its aesthetic beauty, Takelakt is 100% natural and has no artificial materials meaning it is not a burden to the environment like its competitors, tiles and other cement based finishes. It is this combined with its durability and seamless design which sees Tadelakt fast becoming the go to product for interior designers.
Originating in Morocco and believed to be 4000 years old Tadelakt was traditionally used as a finish to steam rooms and bathrooms, to waterproof cisterns and for the hygienic storage of drinking water.
Formulated with natural materials Tadelakt is biodegradable and it can be recycled and reused. The product is impermeable to water but permeable to air allowing it to breathe whilst ensuring it is resistant to mould. It is easy to clean and maintain, making it the ideal choice for bathrooms and wet rooms.
Pigments can be added to this product to allow it to be colour matched to any RAL number making it a versatile finish for any home.
While photographs can demonstrate the obvious beauty of Tadelakt, it is only through touch that you can come to truly appreciate its unique finish. The surface has been described as soft as silk and as hard as stone, and this combination of gentle and sturdy is a reflection of the way it beautifies and strengthens the spaces of which it is a part.
